Shelby Junior High track team runs up three perfect seasons

Boys track team create their own dynasty by going undefeated three straight years - 2013, 2014 and 2015

Opponents are having a hard time catching the Shelby Junior High School seventh grade track team.

The boys track team has created their own dynasty by being undefeated for three straight years - 2013, 2014 and 2015.

“Each team worked very hard collectively to strive for perfection. Each team member practiced to better themselves in their events,” said Jeff Machesky, who coached the teams with Andy Davis. “The end result was a great team effort each season that ended in victory.”

Each team finished the season 6-0 and all team members from all three years are currently seventh through ninth grade students at Shelby.

Some highlights from the past three seasons include:

  • In 2012-2013, the 1600 meter relay team of Gavin Fromm, Brennan Dinnan, Zach Blast and Josh Bely set the school record with a time of 4 minutes and 32 seconds.
  • In 2013-2014, high jumper Alex Jarvis tied a school record with a jump of 4 feet and 10 inches.
  • In 2014-2015, Michael Yancy broke the school record in the 200 meter hurdles with a time of 31:05 seconds.
    Also, the 400 meter relay team of Noah Miller, Chase Vanslambrouck, Derek Trumbo and Nathan Oke tied a school record with a time of 54 seconds.
    In addition, Kevin Yarrington tied the school record for the high jump at 4 feet 10 inches
