Shelby Township Man Attacked During Home Invasion

The victim, who was tied up in the late Tuesday night robbery, was able to free himself around 2 a.m. Wednesday to report the crime, according to media reports.

A Shelby Township man was attacked late Tuesday night by three masked men who broke into his home, tied him up and robbed him, police said Wednesday.

The victim arrived around 10:30 p.m. to his home on Shelby Creek Drive in the 22 Mile and Van Dyke area when the men jumped him.

"The suspects were able to overpower the resident and restrain him using duct tape and zip ties," police stated in a news release.

The victim, in his 50s, was able to free himself hours later to report the crime, the Detroit Free Press reports.

He was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition Wednesday morning as the suspects remained at large, police said.

The victim's Cadillac was missing after the attack but was later recovered by police, ClickOnDetroit.com reports.

Police said their preliminary investigation showed that the attack was not random. They said they want to assure the public this was an isolated incident and there are no person threats to homeowners.
