Shelby Township Man Killed In I-94 Crash: Police

A Shelby Township man was killed in a Thursday night crash on Interstate 94 in Taylor, according to Michigan State Police.

TAYLOR, MI — A Shelby Township man was killed in a Thursday night crash on Interstate 94 in Taylor, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers said the 43-year-old man was speeding in a GMC truck in the westbound lanes on the freeway near Telegraph Road at 11 p.m.

The speeding driver exited the freeway onto the Telegraph Road ramp where he failed to navigate the curve at the bottom of the ramp, officials said.

The truck drove off the right side of the road, through a drainage ditch, and continued westbound across all lanes of Telegraph Road, officials said.

After crossing all the lanes on Telegraph Road, the truck crashed into and through the retaining wall, officials said. Officials found the man dead in the truck. The family has been notified, officials said.

"As we commemorate this Memorial Day weekend, let us make road safety a priority," Lt Mike Shaw said. "Buckle up, drive responsibly and ensure that the memories with family and friends created this weekend are filled with fun and not sadness due to a preventable crash."

No further information was released by officials. Police were still investigating the crash.
