Shelby Township, Utica Governments Recognized for Partnership Plans
The two communities were honored by Executive Mark Hackel, along with six others in Macomb County.

Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel today honored eight local communities for working together to provide more efficient services to residents.
βMunicipalities combining services with one another is a key part of government running as economical as possible,β said Executive Hackel, who recently spearheaded the countyβs Communications and Technical Center (COMTEC), which combines the services of several departments both inside and outside of the county.
The communities given a Certificate of Community Excellence are as follows:
- TheΒ Charter Township of Clinton and the City of Sterling HeightsΒ were both involved consolidating their police, fire/rescue and EMS dispatch services at Macomb Countyβs new Communications and Technical Center (COMTEC). Both also played a key role in initiating the exploration of combined fire services with other nearby municipalities.
- TheΒ Charter Township of ArmadaΒ for sharing fire services with the Charter Township of Bruce.
- TheΒ Charter Township of BruceΒ for sharing fire services with the Charter Township of Armada. The township also began a combined recycling program with the Charter Township of Almont and the Charter Township of Dryden.
- TheΒ City of UticaΒ for utilizing the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development for planning services.
- TheΒ Charter Township of Harrison and the City of Mount ClemensΒ for their innovation in initiating the exploration of combined fire services with other nearby municipalities.
- TheΒ Charter Township of ShelbyΒ for its innovation in partnering with the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development to use the Prime Properties portal, which is a mapping and property analysis tool that highlights Macomb Countyβs prime industrial development sites.
