Stevenson High School band student selected for Michigan All Star Jazz Ensemble

For the fourth straight year, a Stevenson High School band student has been selected to participate in the Michigan Youth Arts Foundation All Star Jazz Ensemble.

Marques White, a percussionist with the Stevenson Jazz Band, was selected to perform with the ensemble at Western Michigan University on May 9.

Only one student is selected per instrument to perform at the event by a committee of professional jazz educators who listen to every Michigan ensemble in the selection process.

In addition to White, judges also gave honorable mention honors to Stevenson Jazz Band members Nate Buzenski on tenor saxaphone and Steven Sayers on guitar.

This is the second straight year, Utica Community Schools has been named one of the nation’s best communities for music education by the NAMM Foundation.
