Stevenson students drive success at Innovative Design Contest

Stevenson High School students are on the fast track when it comes to innovation.

Stevenson High School students are on the fast track when it comes to innovation.

The students took top category awards - at the annual Square One Education Network Vehicle Design competition.

Stevenson students competed against 25 other Michigan high school teams to design, build, and test an electric powered vehicle.

The vehicles performed at various races and were evaluated by a panel of judges.

Stevenson students earned three top honors:
First Place in Engineering and Craftsmanship
Second Place in Ambassadorship Public Relations Presentation
Third Place in the Figure 8 course

Students received a 2nd Place in the Ambassadorship Public Relations category for their work in reaching out to the community by visiting Lutz School for Work Experience in the Macomb Intermediate School District and presenting their vehicle and to more than 100 students and over a dozen staff members.

Team members are: Robert D’Angelo, Tyler Perkins, De’Amonta Brown, Jacob Kasztelan, Christina Li, John Audisho, Ian Draggoo, Patrick Bikkuntod, Anthony Zaha, Amer Saljic, Alex Stefanek, Alex Altadonna, Andrew Morgan, Sam Degrandchamp, Justin Humphrey, John Minicuci, Noah Bialecki and Max Jewett. The team's teacher was Mike Garcia.

The Square One Education Network’s is a nonprofit Pure Michigan approved organization whose mission is to identify, fund and enable STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) projects for K-12 teachers and students, which are experiential, compelling and challenging.

The networks offers hands-on STEM initiatives, host unique professional development, and provide engaging STEM projects throughout the Great Lakes region.
