Sweet Agnes Online Boutique Bakery

Shelby-Utica fashion boutiques offer great new styles and accessories every week. Check back every Friday for the latest in tops, bottoms, bags, accessories and more. This week, watch how an online bakery boutique creates their signature cookies.

This week, Shelby-Utica Patch's Fashion Friday visited Il Fornaio Bakery on 23 Mile Road to catch up with Sweet Agnes Online Bakery Boutique

The bakery boutique is owned by Aggie Corrado and her mother-in-law, Josephine. The two decided to start the business last September in honor of family members who had passed away from cancer. Their signature "S" cookie has come to represent survivors of all cancers.

Josephine brings the traditional recipe of the Italian "S" cookie to Sweet Agnes. The traditional Italian cinnamon with frosting is the most popular, but Sweet Agnes also carries chocolate-covered "S" cookies, as well as Italian biscotti cookies, Pinolada cups and chocolate-covered popcorn.

Since Sweet Agnes is strictly an online company, they have partnered with Il Fornaio Bakery in Shelby to create their sweet treats. Bakery owner John Loiacono was happy to help the growing company. Il Fornaio also bakes up an assortment of breads and other fresh products.

The goal of Sweet Agnes is to raise money and awareness for all types of cancer, especially lung cancer. Corrado said, "Lung cancer is the red-headed stepchild of cancer funding, and we need to change that." Sweet Agnes supports the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation

A portion of every purchase of Sweet Agnes "S" cookies is donated to your cancer foundation of choice. Customers may also order cookies for different fundraising events, and receive the cookies at wholesale cost. Although the "S" cookies with pink icing represent the Addario Foundation, customers may choose the icing color of choice depending on their charity.

Sweet Agnes continually hosts and provides at-cost cookies for charity and fundraising events, and they plan on doing more and more in the future.

Sweet Agnes "S" cookies also stand for survivors of other tragedies. Corrado recently supplied cookies for an event hosted by a sexual assault survivor.

Watch our video to see how the traditional "S" cookies are made at Il Fornaio Bakery.
