Mahmoud Hijazi and Alex Sorgi named Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship recipients

Two Utica Community Schools students were among a select group of high school students honored for work inside the classroom and in their communities.
Mahmoud Hijazi of Utica High School and Alex Sorgi of Henry Ford II were named among approximately 100 Michigan students as Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship recipients.
The students, who were recognized at a special reception in Lansing, were each awarded $1,000 scholarships to honor their community service, academic performance and leadership skills.

“These young adults are not only committed to their own academic success, but also to ensuring their communities prosper,” said Tim Collins, senior vice president of Comcast in Michigan. “It’s inspiring to see the commitment and drive of these bright students who very much deserve this recognition.”
Hijazi will be attending Wayne State University this fall and Sorgi will be attending Bowling Green State University.
