UAIS student honored for voicing his optimistic views on America's future

A Utica Academy High School senior earned a top regional award for voicing his optimistic view on his country's future. 

Danny Haider earned a $500 scholarship for placing first in Oakland and Macomb County in the Voice of Democracy Speech-Writing Competition, sponsored by the Veteran of Foreign awards.

Haider will compete January 22 at the state competition for the opportunitiy to earn an additional $1,000 scholarship.

A member of the UAIS state and nationally recognized debate team, Haider has earned several top honors for speaking and writing skills. Other honors include:

  • Varsity Legislative Debate: State Tournament 2013 2nd Place; Regional Championship 1st Place 2012; Dexter Tournament Varsity 1st Place 2013 
  • Forensics--Impromptu Speaking: MIFA State 2013 Championship 4th Place
  • Michigan Japanese Quiz Bowl: 1st Place in State Division 1 2011; 2nd Place in State Division 2 2012
  • National Merit Scholar Semifinalist
