This Thanksgiving, Utica High School junior, Madelyn Karrandja, is living out what most of us experience through our television screens, or as outside observers bundled for warmth – she will be dancing in the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Karrandja was named an All-American by Varsity Spirit Dance this summer and will be joined by more than 500 junior high and high school All-American cheerleaders and dancers from across the country in the parade performance.

“I’m excited to meet dancers from around the country and to get this performing experience,” Karrandja said. “We’ve been learning our choreography for a month now and we cannot wait to show it off.”

Karrandja is part of the top 10% of cheerleaders and dancers who attended Varsity Spirit’s camps this summer, earning her the All-American title, an honor that Kaitlyn Venglar, Utica Varsity Dance Team coach, attributed in part to Karrandja’s performance factor.

“Her smile and passion for dance shine bright every time she walks onto the stage,” Venglar said.
“We know that she will represent the Utica Dance Program well!”

The 2021 Philadelphia Thanksgiving parade will be televised in the Philadelphia area and syndicated throughout the U.S. The parade will also be streamed live online by the local broadcast station, 6abc, and can be watched on Thanksgiving Day beginning at 9am EST.
