UCS Board of Education listens to students at annual breakfast
Board members meet with students from every high school, specialized program

Everything was on the table at the annual UCS student breakfast.
More than 40 high school students recently met with Utica Community Schools Board of Education members and top district administrators to share their perspectives and ideas for improvement on behalf of their classmates.
“Board of Education members care very deeply about our students and their success,” Board of Education president Dr. Carol Klenow said. “Their input is vital because it is how we continue to grow and become a better school district.”
Students at the breakfast addressed a wide range of issues at the two-hour program, including the use of technology to how facilities impact the overall learning environment.
“Nothing makes me prouder than to interact with our students,” Dr. Christine Johns said. “What makes UCS so strong is our young people. Changes have taken place across the district because of their voice.”
Students from all UCS high schools and secondary specialty programs participated in the program, held at Stevenson High School.
Prior to the program, Stevenson Student Council president Paul Hanges encourages his classmates to share honest and open input with district officials.
“Voice is really important,” he said.
