UCS grad honored for leadership as MSU Student President
National honor reflects grad's work as student voice on East Lansing campus

A 2014 alumni of Utica Community Schools has earned a top national award for his two years of leadership as Student Government Association President at Michigan State University.
Lorenzo Santavicca, a graduate of Eisenhower High School, has earned the Student Body President of the Year award from the National Campus Leadership Council.
“At an early age, it was obvious that Lorenzo would be an effective leader through his kindness, integrity and character,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “His family upbringing and UCS experiences have developed his gentle and altruistic nature. We will always be extremely proud that he is part of our UCS family.”
At Michigan State University, Santavicca led a $2 million organization that represented 40,000 students to university officials and local, state, and national leaders.
Santavicca was the first Michigan State student body president to serve two consecutive terms. He represented the student voice on the East Lansing campus during the recent high profiles events involving the sentencing of Dr. Larry Nassar.
Santavicca said the skills he used to lead the organization began when he served as vice president of the Eisenhower High School senior class, president of the National Honor Society and member of the UCS Superintendent’s Advisory Board.
“All of these leadership roles helped me realize that more than ever, my generation needs to be able to lead with honesty and dignity very early in life, and I’m proud to acclaim my success today to the people around me in UCS as helping me reach my leadership potential,” Santavicca said.
Santavicca graduated this spring with Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the James Madison College.
