UCS junior captures first in statewide Web design competition
Competition focused on recycling and creativity

A Utica Community Schools junior has earned the top state honor in a web design competition focused on recycling and creativity.
Christina Li, of the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Industry and Stevenson High Schools, earned first place in the Michigan Council of Women in Technology’s 2014 Website design competition.
“I was up late looking at your website and I just kept thinking, ‘This can’t be! This can’t be!” remarked one judge in naming Li the top winner.
The 2014 theme for the Web site is “Repurposing: The ultimate in creativity and recycling.” Create a website that illustrates unexpected uses for items – from old items to everyday items to unused items.
Li’s top honor earned her $750 and a paid internship at Comerica. Her Web site is available at http://s1075320.instanturl.net/mcwtwebdesign4girls.net/2014/f231542.175qiwVs/
Li, who plans to pursue a career in computer science, has earned several recent technology awards. This summer, she participated in a summer study program at Stanford University this summer through the Joyce Ivy Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to broadening the college aspirations of talented female high school students from the Midwest.
Li was named the runner-up in the 2012-2013 NCWIT Award for Aspiration in Computing, sponsored by the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT). She was also one of 15 students in Michigan to also earn 2013 Michigan Regional NCWIT Awards for Aspirations in Technology.
