My story with Utica Community Schools began in the kindergarten room at Graebner Elementary. My family moved after my elementary years, and I attended Malow Junior High School and graduated from Eisenhower High School. After college, I taught elementary school for ten years before being elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. I am now a mom with two small children. Recently, I was fortunate to be elected to the Board of Trustees of Macomb Community College where I feel privileged to be serving the public with a focus on my passion - education.
I am very proud of my Utica Community Schools roots. I don’t think there is just one thing that makes Utica Community Schools unique. It is the people that make such a difference in the district. It is clear that UCS has a staff that loves children and their work. I also think Utica Community Schools offers students a variety of coursework. My life was changed by my experiences in Utica Community Schools. I was part of a Strive program, which opened my eyes to many different careers.
I have had the opportunity as an adult to recommend Utica Community Schools to families seeking quality education. Recently, our pastor was moving and she knew I was both a graduate and an educator. I assured her that her children would be the happiest in UCS and their needs were going to be met in the best way. It is a special thing for children to be a part of this district.
