UCS named among nation's best for music education

Utica Community Schools has once again been named one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the nation.

UCS has been honored for its overall support and commitment to music education by the California-based National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).

“This award reflects the high standards and expectations that is a foundation for Utica Community Schools,” Dr. Christine Johns said. “We congratulate our music education staff and students for this continued recognition, and honor their commitment and accomplishments.”

The NAMM Foundation honored 623 school districts across the United States this year.

The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Utica Community Schools provided information about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Submissions were reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

This is the fifth time the UCS has earned this award.

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
