UCS named one of nation’s best for music education for sixth time
UCS honored for commitment and support of music education

Utica Community Schools has been honored once again as a national leader in music education.
For the sixth time, UCS has been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by the California-based National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM).
“Our vocal and instrumental programs allow students to thrive in an environment that develops their talents and a lifelong passion for music,” Dr. Christine Johns said. “The professional level of our student performances is a testament to our outstanding staff and their dedication to excellence.”

The NAMM Foundation honored 754 school districts across the United States this year.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Utica Community Schools provided information about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Submissions were reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,300 members around the world. The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
