UCS robotics team hosts "Robot Day" to inspire younger students
Family event targets the next generation of robotics students

The award-winning Utica Community Schools ThunderChickens robotics team will host a Robot Day for students of all ages from 1 to 4 p.m. on October 24 at the Clinton Macomb Public Library, 40900 Romeo Plank Rd.
Robot Day will allow students of all ages to learn about robotics and the international FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition.
Students will learn about VEX and FIRST robotics, see demonstrations of previous years’ robotics, hang out with the ThunderChickens mascot and learn more about mechanical and electrical programming.
Other activities include observing 3D printers in action, driving VEX IQ robots, practicing drilling and riveting, and observing large FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) robots play Recycle Rush, the 2015 FRC game.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is an international high school robotics competition that gives students real-world engineering experience. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors.
Since 2002, the ThunderChickens team has been district champs five times, regional champs six times, state champs two times, world division champs six times, and World Champions two times.
