UCS senior starts medical career with two scholarship offers

Senior Kerolos Aziz earns full tuition to Michigan, Wayne State

Utica Community Schools provides families with a wide variety of choices that support student achievement.

For senior Kerolos Aziz, those choices now include which of the two full-ride tuition scholarships to top medical schools he will accept for next year.

“UCS really focuses on your next step,” Aziz said. “They try to prepare you for what is ahead – the SAT and knowing what my college choices are.”

The 2019 Henry Ford II graduate, who also attends the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, is considering full tuition opportunities to both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

Aziz said he has always had an interest in the medical field, but his experiences in Ford’s Medical Health classes and his MST internship at the emergency services department at McLaren Macomb have led him to a career as a surgeon.

“I have always liked the aspect of being able to help people,” he said.

In addition to currently being a valedictorian at Henry Ford II, Aziz is involved in the school’s HOSA club and serves as treasurer of the Student Council at MST. He is also involved in the program’s yearbook club.

Aziz said he plans to make his decision in the next month. Combined, the scholarship offers represent almost $100,000 in tuition.

"I’m very fortunate," he said. "I didn’t think it would be so hard, but it’s been a good kind of hard."
