UCS sixth grader selected for West Point STEM program

Camp designed for students who demonstrate strong interest in science, technology, engineering and math

A Utica Community Schools sixth grader will be traveling to New York this month after being selected for a unique West Point Military Academy program.

Narah Shin, of Crissman Elementary, will attend West Point’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) workshop is especially designed for students who demonstrate strong interest and skills in science, technology, engineering and math, according to the program guidelines.

From May 24-27, she will to participate in a range of STEM activities, including working with robots and drones, designing virtual vehicles, attending chemistry and physics demonstrations and touring engineering labs.

The program will also offer the students a chance to learn more about what West Point offers to potential college students.
