Driver Charles Weir was named among the top four drivers and "Rookie of the Year" at a recent driving competition sponsored by the Michigan.

A Utica Community Schools transportation employee's outstanding abilities has earned him the title of one of the state's top drivers.
Driver Charles Weir was named among the top four drivers and “Rookie of the Year” at a recent driving competition sponsored by the Michigan Association of Pupil Transportation.
Weir was honored by the Board of Education at its Sept. 12 meeting.

“Mr. Weir is representative of a group of drivers who care deeply about the students they transport,” said Treasurer Dr. Robert Ross. “Our drivers know they are the first district face our students see in the morning and the last at the end of the day. They make sure every student has a positive start and end for our students.”
Michigan School Bus Driving Championship is a driving competition that emphasizes a driver’s ability to react and respond to real-world driving situations and conditions.

Tested areas include knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code, school bus operations and procedures, as well as behind the wheel judgment challenges and driving skills rodeo.
Weir advancedthrough the Macomb County trials and earned the fourth top finish and a “Rookie of the Year” title at the state competition.
