UCS students earn top national art honors

Two UCS students were honored nationally for excellence in the visual arts

Two UCS students were honored nationally for excellence in the visual arts, including one with work ranked among the top percent of all entries.

Jackson Hintz, of Utica High School and the Utica Center for Science and Industry, received an American Visions award and Miranda Burns, of Utica High School, earned a national medal in the Scholastic Arts and Writing competition.

As an American Visions winner, Hintz has had his work ranked among the top one percent of the more than 300,000 works entered in this year's competition.

The students will be honored with other national winners at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on June 2.

Students entered the national competition after earning Scholastic Arts Awards regional honors. This year, nearly 200 honors were awarded to Utica Community Schools students at the regional competition.

In total, more than 320,000 works of art and writing to the 2016 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
