UCS students honored for their optimism

Four UCS students were honored for their optimism.

Four UCS students were honored for their optimism.
The students earned top honors in the Shelby Township Optimist International Oratorical Contest. Students wrote a 4-5 minute speech on the topic, "How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others."

The 2016 winners of the Shelby Township Optimist International Oratorical Contest were:

Girls:
1st place - Olivia Pinto of Monfort Elementary
2nd place - Sophia Meguid of Monfort Elementary
3rd place - Angelina Randazzo of Monfort Elementary

Boys:
1st place - Jack Droelle of Monfort Elementary. In addition, Droelle won the district competition, earning a 2500.00 scholarship.

The Shelby Township Area Optimist Club presented all participants certificates, and winners received medallions and cash prizes. The two first place winners, Olivia Pinto and Jack Droelle, advanced to the regional tournament.

Since its start in 1928, the Oratorical contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.
