UCS students honored for their RESOLVE

Five Henry Ford II students have been honored for their work in youth suicide prevention and awareness.

Brianna Atkinson, Brianna Boyd, Erin Hebel, Alysa Kirn and Amanda Reed were honored by KNOWRESOLVE at the group's annual Breaking the Silence benefit on November 18 at the Mirage Banquet Center.

This is the first year that students have been honored by Dennis Legghio, founder of the non-profit group that is dedicated to promoting mental health and preventing youth suicides through outreach, advocacy and education and spreading the message "Break A Secret, Save a Life.."

The Ford II students are have been active leaders in the KNOWRESOLVE Student Club, which formed in 2014. The students are now working with the Utica Academy for International Studies to start a second club.

In addition to honoring KNOW RESOLVE members, the organization's charity event also featured the work of Ford II senior Quintin Smith an art teacher Amy May as part of its Silent Auction.

Smith built two wood chairs in Advance Woodworking that raised more than $600 for the nonprofit.

Ford II Art Teacher Amy May also hand-painted t-shirts with the group's logo that raised $35.
