Utica Community Schools is supporting its Continuity of Learning and COVID-19 Response Plan by providing 2,000 laptop computers to families who have requested additional technology.

On Thursday, April 16, Michigan’s second largest school district began deploying laptop computers for families to use until the end of the end of the school year.

“While face-to-face instruction has been suspended, education is continuing in Utica Community Schools for students,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “It is our expectation that every student actively participates in the learning that is provided by their teachers.”

Staff worked at eight sites across the district to deliver the computers to families while using social distancing guidelines.

Over the past month, teachers have been connecting with students to provide review and enrichment activities for students using Schoology. Through the Continuity of Learning Plan, UCS teachers are now extending instruction for students in major subject areas, secondary electives and elementary specials, such as art, music and physical education.
