UCS teacher selected for fellowship
David Ersig one of 10 educators selected for Gerstacker Fellowship

A Utica Community Schools high school teacher has been selected for prestigious Gerstacker Fellowship.
David Ersig, a teacher at the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, is among ten Michigan educators selected for the 2016 Gerstacker Fellowship at Saginaw Valley State University.
Ersig is the only honoree from Macomb County. Fellowship selection is based on past academic and service accomplishments, along with nomination by a supervisor and outside recommendations.
“Mr. Ersig is an outstanding educator and teacher leader in Utica Community Schools,” said superintendent Dr. Christine Johns, who nominated Ersig. “He has successfully worked to increase success among students and is well respected by his peers.”
As a Gerstacker fellow, Ersig will meet with SVSU faculty for a year of concentrated leadership training in areas such as organizational leadership, ethics, finance, communication, human resource, entrepreneurship and education with a global perspective.
The fellowship includes a capstone international experience in Japan this summer. This trip will involve visits to educational institutions to learn about international systems and corporate settings and how leadership works in different cultural and economic systems. Previous fellowship destinations included Finland, China, Germany, South Korea and Taiwan.
The program was established in 2005 and funded by an endowment from the Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation of Midland (MI). There is no charge to program participants.
Ersig has taught mathematics and science in Utica Community Schools since 1996.
