UCS technology implementation plan earns national honor

When remote learning became a reality in March, 2020, a long-range plan for Utica Community Schools to develop a 1:1 technology initiative for all students suddenly became a short-range immediate need.

And high on that list was making access easier for students through a standard log-in and entry point for curriculum content through ClassLink software.

ClassLink, a system that initially takes six months of implementation, was put into place over 60 days the summer of 2020 – a feat that has earned Utica Community Schools national recognition.

“Utica is an amazing example of putting students and teachers first,” said Bevin Subocz, senior director of engagement Northeast Region for ClassLink, which awarded UCS its national implementation award in the category of large K-12 district. “They thought about ClassLink usage from all angles and made sure it would benefit everyone. They are truly a great team.”

The benefit of ClassLink is that it gives students a single password and access to various sites and software used by UCS teachers, making learning more efficient.

The ClassLink implementation demonstrated how departments across UCS came together in support of student success.

The district’s technology team and Teaching and Learning Department worked closely together to install ClassLink on the 27,000 devices secured for 1:1 technology and provide professional development on using the program.
