High school students conduct health assessments with nursing students from Oakland University

A group of Utica High School medical careers students are getting a firsthand look at life in their career paths.
Recently, students in the Career and Technology Education nursing assistant and medical/dental classes worked on a collaborative project with nursing students from Oakland University.
“The project was a positive learning experience for both UCS and OU students that we plan to continue next semester,” said Jill Bologna, a nursing assistant instructor at Utica High.

During sessions with the Oakland students, a health assessment was conducted on 32 UCS participants. These assessments included a health history, neurological exam and vital signs, along with vision and hearing screening.
Team members from both schools then worked together to identify areas of concern as tool for health promotion. UCS students also had the opportunity to inquire about college life and the pathway toward admittance into nursing school.
