The Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (MIAAA) has named Robin Dilday, Athletic Director at Utica Community Schools, the Region 10 Athletic Director of the Year. This prestigious honor recognizes outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions to interscholastic athletics.
Dilday has dedicated an extraordinary 52 years to education and 44 years to athletic administration, building a legacy of leadership and service within Utica Community Schools.
“Mr. Dilday has impacted generations of student athletes in Utica Community Schools,” Superintendent Robert S. Monroe said. “He is a state and national leader in championing a program where students develop skills, a healthy lifestyle, character, leadership and a commitment to academic success.”
Dilday is a proud graduate of Utica High School where he is in their school’s Hall of Fame as a standout baseball, basketball and football player.
He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in communication arts (radio and television) from Michigan State University. While at MSU, he was a four-year member of the Spartans varsity baseball team and competed in the 1971 Big Ten Championship and NCAA Tournament. He later completed his teaching certification at Central Michigan University and earned his master's degree in education from Wayne State University.
He began his career in 1974 with the Macomb Intermediate School District before joining Utica Community Schools in 1975. Dilday spent his first 19 years at Henry Ford II High School, including 12 years as the building athletic director, while also teaching government and serving two years as an associate principal.
In the summer of 1994, he was appointed district athletic director for Utica Community Schools, a position he has held for 32 years while overseeing one of the largest and most comprehensive athletic programs in Michigan.
Mr. Dilday has been a long-standing member of the NIAAA, MIAAA, and the Macomb Area Conference (MAC), serving as a founding member and longtime president of MCADA and holding numerous leadership roles within the MAC. His impact includes extensive facility development projects, expansion of athletic offerings, implementation of safety initiatives such as AEDs and athletic trainers, authorship of key district handbooks, and service on multiple MHSAA committees.
Reflecting on his influence, colleague Chad Ballee, of Warren Consolidated Schools, said: “Robin is always willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat and strives for success within his program. His unwavering dedication, professionalism, and mentorship have shaped generations of student-athletes and administrators alike.”
