Utica Community Schools celebrates excellence in teaching

"These educators exemplify the quality of teaching that occurs in our classrooms each and every day,"

Five UCS educators were honored for driving instruction every day in Utica Community Schools.

For one, that honor was literal, thanks to the generous donation of a leased car of her choice from Suburban Ford of Sterling Heights.

The district recently recognized three UCS Teachers of the Year and two UCS Teachers of Excellence in Personalized Learning for their outstanding efforts to deliver instructional quality.

“These educators exemplify the quality of teaching that occurs in our classrooms each and every day,” superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said. “They are caring, passionate, dedicated and committed to a high level of learning.”

  • Maureen Langenderfer of Wiley Elementary School – Teacher of Excellence in Personalized Learning
  • Christine Froberger of Beacon Tree Elementary School – Teacher of Excellence in Personalized Learning
  • Kelly Bronski of Utica High School – High School Teacher of the Year
  • Christine Sandison of Burr Elementary – Elementary School Teacher of the Year
  • Katie Blackmore of Bemis Junior High School – Junior High School Teacher of the Year

Local businesses and community members joined UCS administrators at the March 25 awards breakfast. As part of the celebration, Bronski was surprised with a free one-year lease of a new car courtesy of Suburban. Her choice was a shiny blue Mustang convertible
