Utica Community Schools students honored for their plans to make history

Paula Stiff, English teacher at Eisenhower High School, and her student teacher, Samantha Manzo, had a wonderful evening with their students and their parents at the 10th Annual Kroger I Can Make History Essay contest.

Along with professors, writers, and community leaders we celebrated the artistic and literary talents of students representing elementary and secondary schools throughout Southeast Michigan at the Henry Ford Museum of Innovation.

Mrs. Stiff was so proud of her students this year as they worked hard at crafting their essays and adding their voices to their writing.

James Lewandowski came in First Place in the 10th grade Essay Category and received a $500 scholarship, Nicholas Boor and Tina Eid came in Second Place in the 10th Grade Essay Category and both received $300 scholarships.

More than 2200 students participated in the contest, which represented 300 schools. 53 schools had winning entries.
