Utica Community Schools students named winners in congressional art competition

Two Utica Community Schools student artists were named winners of this year’s Artistic Discovery Art Competition for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District.

Melanie Mrozek of Stevenson High School earned a second place finish and Jillian Oberts of Utica High School was named one of two honorable mentions.

This year, 203 pieces of artwork from students were judged in the contest, which is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Candice Miller. The pieces were judged by professional artists.

Mrozek was honored for her work “Animals” and Oberts was honored for “Dreaming.”
