Utica Community Schools teacher honored with Macomb County Make A Difference Award
Honor awarded to UCS teacher for eighth straight year
A Utica Community teacher has been named a recipient of this year’s Macomb County “Make a Difference” Award.
Chelsea Laurencelle, elementary teacher for the Roberts Elementary Autism Spectrum Classroom CORE, has earned the honor from the Macomb County Parent Advisory Committee.
“This honor reflects the dedication, kindness and care that Mrs. Laurencelle models each day to ensure her students are reaching their full academic potential,” Superintendent Dr. Christine Johns said.

The Macomb County Parent Advisory Committee annually offers parents the opportunity to nominate an educator who has made a significant impact on their child’s school experience.
This is the eighth straight year UCS educators have earned this award.

Laurencelle has taught young children with special needs at the elementary level since 2010.
She has implemented the “Super Pals” program by training more than 90 students to mentor and help students with special needs. She has also spearheaded a building-wide Autism Awareness Day each April.
Laurencelle was nominated by Laura and Joe Viviano, parents of a student in Roberts Elementary CORE program.
“(Laurencelle) is fast to share good news and celebrate success, downplays tough days and reminds us that there is always tomorrow and tomorrow we try again,” they wrote in the application.
Laurencelle will be honored at a special county-wide ceremony May 23.
