Utica grad among team winning 2017 America's Cup

Robert Kleinschmit on New Zealand's winning team

A 2002 Utica Community Schools graduate has sailed into success.
Robert Kleinschmit, who was a valedictorian at Utica High School and the Utica Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology, was a member of a New Zealand team that captured this year’s America’s cup.
Kleinschmit was the Appendage Design Coordinator for the team.
His work to design for the America’s Cup was a life’s dream that took root in UCS, where he also attended West Utica Elementary and Jeannette Junior High School,
After graduating from UCS, Kleinschmit attended Webb Institute on Long Island in New York and received a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
