Utica Track Stars Shine as Baseball, Softball Gets Ready for Postseason
Big week ahead for baseball, softball and track standouts.

We’re going to keep this week’s edition of the Pick of the Week short and to the point.
Why?
Well, it’s because the forecast, for once this season, looks favorable and the state playoffs are about to get under way in both baseball and softball—the district round is slated to start with pre-district competition Tuesday, while the rest of the round wraps up on Friday (in a few cases) and Saturday (in most cases).

We don’t want to jinx the weather so let’s not spend a lot of time rambling about how teams may come in with fewer games than normal under their belts, thus tipping the scale to more experienced baseball and softball teams this season more than usual, and get right to the point.
First of all, let's take a second to congratulate Evan Bianchi, Joe Engel, and Blossom Metevier for advancing to the Division 1 state finals Saturday at Rockford High.

Now, let’s take a quick look at the postseason baseball and softball schedule for and .
Both baseball teams will meet at Utica High for district action with the Chieftains playing a pre-district game May 31 at 4 p.m. against Troy Athens at home, and the Eagles battling the winner of that contest June 4 at 10 a.m.
The softball squads share the same path as their baseball counterparts with one exception—the Lady Eagles are slated to play their semifinal at 12 p.m. June 4 against either Utica High or Troy Athens.
