You're Safer in Shelby Township than Almost Anywhere Else in Michigan
Shelby Township boasts a low crime rate for a community that grew more than 10 percent over the past decade.
Where’s one if the safest places to live in Michigan?
Shelby Township, which ranked 19th on the list of Michigan’s 50 safest cities released Wednesday the national security organization SafeWise.

“Located approximately 15 miles north of Detroit, the population of Shelby Charter grew by more than 10 percent between 2000 and 2010. And yet the crime rate for a city of more than 73,000 residents remains surprisingly low; no murders or manslaughters were reported in 2012.
“School-aged children attend schools primarily in the Utica Community Schools District, with a considerably smaller percentage zoned into the Romeo Community Schools District.
