1 Dead In 3-Car Crash On I-696 In Macomb County: Police

ROSEVILLE, MI — A man was killed Saturday morning in a three-car crash on Interstate 696 in Macomb County, according to Michigan State Police.

The 56-year-old Warren man was speeding in a pickup truck on westbound Interstate 696 near Gratiot Avenue in Roseville at 9:10 a.m. when he slammed into the back of a county truck, police said.

Troopers said the Warren man was speeding in the left lane on the freeway and could not stop in time, slamming into the back of a county road truck and trailer, police said.

The pickup truck then veered into the right lane where another vehicle slammed into the truck, police said.

The Warren man was found dead in the pickup truck at the scene of the crash, police said. Officials said no one else was injured in the crash.

"This is an example of the worst thing that can happen when drivers can not control their vehicle when driving at excessive speeds" Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. "While we are lucky no one else was hurt, there is now a family missing a loved one today. Just slow down!"

Officials were still investigating the crash.
