1 Dead In Wrong Way Head-On Crash On I-696 In Macomb County: Police
Officials believe the suspected driver was drunk and driving with a suspended license.
ROSEVILLE, MI — One person was killed Friday morning in a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Interstate 696 in Roseville, according to Michigan State Police.
Police said a Jeep Liberty was driving east in the westbound lanes on the freeway near Groesbeck Highway at 3:35 a.m. when it slammed into a Chevy SUV head-on in the left lane.
The driver of the Chevy, a 62-year-old from Harper Woods, was found dead in the SUV, police said. Officials notified the victim's family.

The driver and passenger of the Liberty suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said. Officials also believe they were drunk and had blood drawn for an analysis.
In addition, police believe the driver of the liberty was driving with a suspended license, police said.

Once the driver is medically cleared from a broken toe, he will be taken to jail to await charges.
Moments before the crash, troopers drove east on the freeway's shoulder of the westbound lanes, trying to alert the driver of the Liberty, police said.
"We are continuing to see drivers making poor driving decisions that are resulting in serious injuries or death in traffic crashes," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "We asking people to drive responsibly. Slow down, don’t drive impaired or distracted. It really is that simple."
Interstate 696 near Interstate 94 was shut down for several hours Friday morning while detectives investigated the crash. The freeway has since reopened.
Police were still investigating the crash.
