4 Macomb County HS Students Charged As Adults In Shooting: Prosecutor

Four teens were charged in a Warren shooting that left a man paralyzed from the neck down and in critical condition, police said.

WARREN, MI — Four Macomb County high school students were charged as adults in connection to a shooting that left a man paralyzed from the neck down and in critical condition, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

The teens, aged 14 and 15, from Warren Woods Tower High School, were each charged with assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Three of the teens were also charged with felony firearm.

Three of the teens were placed in jail with a $750,000 bond and must receive a mental health evaluation. The fourth teen was placed in jail with a $250,000 bond. If released, they must wear a GPS tether. Their next court date is scheduled for Oct. 3.

Officials did not release the teens' names.

Police said the 26-year-old Roseville man was driving a blue sedan near Martin and Bunert roads in Warren on Sept. 14 at 3:10 p.m. when he was shot in the throat, arm and leg before crashing into a front lawn.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he is still listed in critical condition and likely to be paralyzed, police said.

Police do not believe the shooting was random and believe it may have been the result of a prearranged transaction between the suspect, or suspects, and the victim.

The students were arrested in connection to the shooting on Sept. 18 during classes at Warren Woods Tower High School, prompting lockdowns at the school and nearby Macomb Community College.

"My office made the decision to charge these teens as adults," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. "This decision was driven by the premeditated nature of their alleged crimes, which involved a shooting. Their alleged actions have left the victim critically injured, as the attack was extremely violent. It is a stark reminder that, in the eyes of the law, these juveniles require the same consequences as if they were adults."
