For 60 Years, St. Clair Shores Church Has Been A Refuge
St. Margaret of Scotland honored on anniversary for serving those in need.

(Originally posted on Oct. 4, 2016) ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — “We pray and we have a sign on our door that says, ‘Welcome home,’” said the pastor of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, celebrating it 60th anniversary. Rev. Ron DeHondt told the St. Clair Shores Sentinel that the church "keeps an open spirit for worship, for assistance.”
The parish was honored Sept. 19 with a city proclamation that read: “(St. Margaret) has dedicated its many human and physical resources to people who are homeless, hungry, or in need ... through the McWarm, the MCREST, and the St. Vincent DePaul Programs.”
The two programs are relatively new, and came about a few years ago after Deacon Ron Channell read a story about a man who froze to death in a Dumpster.

“He thought we could open our gym up three days a week for a warming center,” DeHondt said. That was the beginning of McWarm. The church building is open November through March, Monday, Wednesday and Friday and offers breakfast, a bag lunch and a place to socialize, as well as other services.
“The only rule we have is good behavior,” DeHondte said.
