'Set For Life,' Macomb County Man Says After Winning $1M On Scratch-Off Ticket

The man told lottery officials he plans to save his winnings.

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — A Macomb County man said he is "set for life" after winning $1 million on a scratch-off ticket, according to Michigan Lottery officials.

The lucky 73-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning Cash Train ticket at the Country Party Store, located at 23750 Greater Mack Avenue in Saint Clair Shores, according to lottery officials.

"I scratched all the numbers on the ticket first, and once I was done, I scratched the winning amount," the man said. "As soon as I saw letters instead of numbers where the prize amount was printed, I knew I won big! I started shaking and couldn't believe it was real."

He chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, according to lottery officials.

He plans to save his winnings, according to lottery officials.

"You never think this type of thing will happen to you, so I'm still in disbelief," the man said. "Thanks to my big win, I'm financially set for life."
