Metro Detroit Man Charged With 30 Child Sex Abuse Crimes: Prosecutor

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Macomb County man is facing 30 criminal sexual conduct felonies involving minors, according to prosecutors.

Robert Fitz, 48, of Harrison Township, was charged with:

• Fourteen counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older), a felony punishable by life or any term of years.
• Sixteen counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (person under 13, defendant 17 years of age or older), a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
• Two county habitual offender – second offense notice, an aggravating sentencing factor.

He was placed in jail with a $500,000 bond on the first set of charges and $250,000 cash/surety on the second.

His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 28.

Officials were investigating an arson in September 2025 when prosecutors said they found evidence of sexual abuse of minor children on Fitz's phone.

As officials continued their investigation, they found additional evidence of Fitz sexually abusing minor children, according to prosecutors.

No other details were released.

"Protecting children is one of the most important responsibilities of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. When evidence of the sexual abuse of children is uncovered, we will follow that evidence wherever it leads and pursue accountability for those responsible," Macomb County Prosecutors Peter J. Lucido said.
