Court Date Rescheduled for Man Charged With Killing Geese

The pre-exam hearing in for a St. Clair Shores resident charged with in front of his home has been adjourned until September.

Richard E. Lesko, 69, will return to court Sept. 18 for a pre-exam hearing on two counts of killing an animal.

Lesko, who unsuccessfully in November, is alleged to have driven his pickup into a flock of geese crossing the road in front of his home in the 22000 block of Lange Street.

He then allegedly turned his truck around and drove through the flock a second time, killing a second goose.

St. Clair Shores Police Det. Margaret Eidt said the department has been "barraged" by phone calls.

"Citizens are indicating they want to see strong prosecution (of Lesko)," she said. "(The callers) are planning on making a public show at future court dates."

Lesko is charged with four-year felonies, and could be incarcerated, up to $7,500 in fines and up to 500 hours of community service if he is convicted of killing the geese.

He is free on a $10,000, or 10 percent, bond.
