St. Clair Shores Public Library has a special guest planned for Wednesday, Nov. 30.
Dr. Janine Marie Lanza, Associate Professor of History at Wayne State University, will speak on women’s lives in 17th century France. She'll discuss the status of wives and widows, their position in the Guild system, the Coutume de Paris (a French feudal marriage law) and other unusual facts about the legal system that existed in both New France and Paris. Many of the local French-Canadian historical customs can be traced back to their beginnings in France. The 7 p.m. program is free to attend, and is part of the 13th annual Elizabeth Blay Maison Memorial Lecture Series.
