Stop in at the Selinsky-Green Farmhouse Museum (behind the library) for an afternoon of candlemaking demonstrations.
Nowadays we use candles pretty much for atmosphere or in case of a power outage. But not so long ago, candlemaking was an essential skill, lighting up the darkness.
Beeswax was used to craft candles as far back as in ancient Roman times, and was considered far superior to other materials because it burned cleaner and smelled much better. (Tallow candles got the job done, certainly, but they weren't exactly pleasant.)
