The God Loves Gays billboard is competing for the attention of passersby with another billboard claiming homosexuality is a choice.

Metro Detroit’s gay community will be happy – or at least some of them will – to learn that God loves them.

That’s assuming that the people who run thegoodlordabove.com blog had an actual conversation with God before grabbing a spot in a rotating digital billboard at 6850 N. Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights.
God – the comedian, not the deity – reportedly said he’s tired of all this hating on the LGBTQ community in Michigan.

“Some jerk has been putting up a bunch of anti-gay, bigoted billboards all across Michigan for months. Now God has jumped into the rotation of one of the digital billboards they’re using,” according to the blog, which said God feels a sense of satisfaction out of being able to contradict the purveyors of the intolerant message.
“SMITE!” God reportedly said.
The blog takes a breezy approach to perhaps one of the most contentious civil rights debates of all time, and comes at a time when Michiganders, and people around the country, await what could be a watershed U.S. Supreme Court ruling ending a decades-long battle for marriage equality fought in state legislatures, courts and at the ballot box.

The court’s decision, expected in a matter of days, could legalize same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
The case before the court is actually six cases in four states – Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee – consolidated into one. The justices will answer two key questions: whether same-sex marriage bans are constitutional, and whether states can refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed outside of their borders.
The God Loves Gay billboard shares digital space with a message sponsored by the RestrainTheJudges.com group, which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. That billboard suggests that “homosexuality is a behavior, not a civil right.”

God Loves Gays Billboards in Utah, Too
According to the God Loves Gays campaign, its billboard is intended to send a positive message of love.
“Love is more powerful than hate Perhaps the ‘God Loves Gays’ message will make a few people think about their beliefs,” according to the blog. “Or perhaps a few Michigan LGBTQ teens struggling with their identity will see the message ‘God Loves Gays’ and feel a little better.”
This is the third billboard placed by the campaign. Two others have been in Utah, one in Orem and another in Salt Lake City, which will continue for another week.
