High Schools Gear Up for Playoffs

Lince signs letter of intent, Cavs soccer is stellar and big week awaits baseball and softball teams

We’re going to keep this week’s edition of the Pick of the Week short and to the point.

Why?

Well it’s because the forecast. For once this season it looks favorable and the state playoffs are about to get underway in both baseball and softball. The district round is slated to start with pre-district competition Tuesday, while the rest of the round wraps up on Friday, in a few cases, and Saturday.

We don’t want to jinx the weather so let’s not spend a lot of time rambling about how teams may come in with less games than normal under their belts, thus tipping the scale to more experienced baseball and softball teams this season more than usual, and get right to the point.

Hold up, first of all, lets take a second to congratulate softball standout, , for signing on to play softball next season at Lake Superior State.

Also, we would be flat-out crazy not to tip our caps to the soccer squad from . The girls went an amazing 12-0 in the Macomb Area Conference Silver (12-2-1 overall) and deserve a community-wide round of applause. 

Way to go, girls.

We’ll be rooting for you in the postseason!

Now, let’s take a quick look at the postseason district assignments for both baseball and softball.

In baseball, both and Lakeview will call home during district play.

The Shorians take on Grosse Pointe South in pre-district action Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while Lakeview takes on the winner of this contest June 4 at 1:30 p.m.

South Lake travels to Lamphere High for district play beginning with a match-up against the host school June 4 at 10 a.m.

The softball squads mirror the baseball teams schedule this season in regards to opponent, with the Shorians squaring off against Grosse Pointe South Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., and Lakeview hosting the winner of this game June 4 at 11:30 a.m.

The Lady Cavs battle Lamphere at noon, June 4 at Lamphere.
