"The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office has zero tolerance for guns in schools," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. "The student who saw something and said something is a hero in my book. Safety is everyone’s responsibility."

Police said an eleventh-grader reported "worrisome behavior" between two other students at the high school and believed one of them had a gun in his backpack.

The high school's principal, assistant principal and security resource officer then found the student, searched his backpack and discovered a Glock 9 mm firearm, police said.

Officials said the gun had an extended magazine and a round in the chamber, and went on to say it was stolen out of Bloomfield Township.

The student told officials it wasn't his gun, but the security resource officer handcuffed him and took the weapon, officials said.
