Macomb Community College Student Awarded Scholarship From Michigan Water Environment Association

Sarah Schwartz, of Clinton Township, was awarded the Jack H. Wagner Scholarship from the Michigan Water Environment Association.

Sarah Schwartz, 20, of Clinton Township, an environmental sciences student at Macomb Community College, was awarded the Jack H. Wagner Scholarship from the Michigan Water Environment Association (MWEA). The $5,000 scholarship supports local students seeking a career in water resource recovery and treatment.

To qualify for the scholarship, Schwartz had to be enrolled in a Michigan college or university, maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and write an essay reflecting her career aspirations and how she envisions using her education to enhance water quality.

“I’ve always been an environmentalist and want to make a difference in the world,” said Schwartz. “This scholarship means I’ll have no financial worries for my education. It means security.”

Schwartz is currently an intern at the Warren Water Recovery Facility. She plans to graduate from Macomb in December and then transfer to Oakland University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences.

MWEA, established in 1925, represents more than 2,000 water quality professionals statewide who are dedicated to preserving, restoring and enhancing Michigan's water resources. MWEA is a member association of the Water Environment Federation, an international organization with more than 34,000 members worldwide.
