WARREN, MI — A Wayne County man was arrested after assaulting a police officer during a Thursday protest in Warren, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.

Maherr Jaeran, 21, from Melvindale, was charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer (two year felony). He was placed in jail with a $5,000 personal bond. His next court date was scheduled for Feb. 13.

Prosecutors said Jaeran assaulted a police officer during a protest in Warren against President Joe Biden while Biden was preparing for a political rally.

"When an individual allegedly assaults a police officer on duty during a peaceful demonstration – they not only attack an individual but assault the very fabric of our society. Our duty as prosecutors is to ensure that such acts are met with the full force of the law," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
