Man Killed In Crash After Fleeing Cops In Macomb County: Police

Police said the driver sped away from officers during a traffic stop in Warren before crashing into two trucks.

WARREN, MI — A man was killed Tuesday after he crashed his car while fleeing officers in Warren, according to police.

Officers stopped a red 2015 Chevrolet Cruze for a traffic violation at 12:09 p.m. in the area of Van Dyke and Stephens Road, police said.

Police said officers approached the driver and asked for his identification. The man told officers he didn't have any identification on him, police said.

Officers then told the man to get out of the car, but the man shifted the car into drive and sped away from officers, police said.

Officers followed the Cruze onto northbound Lawrence Avenue and into Center Line where the suspect then drove onto a grassy field near Lawrence and 10 Mile, police said.

The Cruze then turned west toward Ryan Road where the driver disregarded a red light and struck a Ford pickup truck, then a box truck, police said.

The driver of the Cruze was killed in the crash, police said. Officials did not report any other injuries in the crash. The chase lasted roughly three minutes, police said.

Investigators found a handgun on the floorboard of the car's front seat, police said.

Police were still investigating the crash.
